Does the community have a hair care salon?
Yes, there is a hair care salon on site with full services available at reasonable prices. Weekly hours of services are posted and appointments can be made directly with the operator.
Are guest meals available?
Yes! We encourage our residents to invite friends and family members to join them for meals. We appreciate having a bit of advance notice so we can be prepared. We also have a private dining room that is available for special celebrations on a reservation basis.
Can we visit anytime?
Yes, however, we appreciate knowing if you wish to take your family member out shopping or to an appointment so we can make sure to have them ready to go. Additionally, our community is locked during the evening and early morning hours for the safety and security of our residents and staff. However after hours visits are welcome, guests simply ring the front doorbell which in turn alerts the staff.
How does a resident get emergency assistance?
Each apartment is equipped with an emergency pull-cord system in several areas of each apartment, that alerts the staff.
Can residents bring pets to live with them at Juniper House?
Yes. We believe that pets are an important part of home and family. We encourage prospective residents to talk with the director about the possibility of bringing their pet to live at Juniper House. Pets must be well mannered, pest free and have received all required vaccinations. Pets who pose a threat to the well-being of staff or residents are not permitted. Some charges may apply.
Are residents allowed to bring personal possessions with them?
Yes! Our apartments are unfurnished and most residents want to bring their own furnishings. Each apartment has a locking door and there is a locking cabinet in each room for personal items. For those who wish to stay a short time, we do offer a furnished studio apartment that is available at a daily rate.
Are payments to Juniper House tax deductible?
You, or the person paying for your care, may be eligible for certain deductions on your federal tax return, depending on the type of services and the level of care you require. Assisted living residents receiving personal care services may qualify for the deduction. An adult child paying for their parents’ care may also qualify for the tax deduction, if the parent is a dependent. Ask your tax advisor to review the IRS code under publication 502 related to medical and dental expenses. This publication can be retrieved from the IRS website at www.irs.ustreas.gov.
Are there Veterans Disability Benefits that I could apply for?
Yes! The VA administers two disability programs, Compensation and Pension. Both entitlements have additional special monthly benefits that can assist eligible Veterans or their Surviving Spouses with the cost of care in assisted living. In many cases, Veteran’s entitlements can provide from 20-50% or even more of the costs of monthly care with tax-exempt awards. Can long-term care insurance help cover cost of care?
Yes! Long term care insurance can protect personal assets and inheritance for the family, provide greater choice in the selection of long term care settings (nursing and assisted living facilities) and generally provide for financial security. Recently enacted federal health insurance legislation has helped make private long term care insurance a more viable option for paying for long term care costs while preserving personal savings, choice and dignity. How do the costs of living at Juniper House compare with in-home care or a nursing home?
Many view in-home care as a more affordable care option for themselves/their loved ones. However, add the costs of in-home services to the expenses you already have with home ownership and other outside service, and you may be surprised at what you find. Does Juniper House accept Medicaid?
Yes! Medicaid may be a possibility for helping to afford the cost of care at Juniper House. Individuals need to meet certain financial and medical criteria in order to be eligible. For those individuals lacking in financial resources for care, contact should be made with the local Department of Human Services, Seniors and People with Disabilities office, or Area Agency on Aging to explore programs and services for which they may qualify. How does Juniper House determine what type of services the resident needs?
A comprehensive assessment is completed prior to move-in, after 30 days, and quarterly or upon a change of condition. Input from the resident, their family and physician, assist in the development of an individualized Service Plan. This plan identifies areas in which the resident requires or has requested assistance and notes resident preferences for how those services are to be delivered.
